Four people gunned down near Brussels Midi train station

2 minutes read

Four people sustained injuries after a shooting near the Brussels Midi train station.

Two were in critical condition with life-threatening wounds and had to be rushed to the hospital after the attack late yesterday evening.

The shooting happened near the Hallepoort, a crime hot-spot area in Brussels, reportedly where drug gangs often of a migrant background have been waging a war in the streets.

Markings on the footpath indicated dozens of bullet casings were found.

“During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, around midnight, our services intervened following a shooting incident on Zuidlaan,” the police reported. “Several patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The Brussels Capital/Ixelles police zone immediately set up three security perimeters to secure the area, and the public prosecutor’s office was notified.”

This morning, the police were reported to have arrested four suspects connected to the shooting.

They did not give more details.

The incident came just days after another shooting, on the night of October 5 in the same area, where cars and the exterior of a private residence were hit with bullets. No one was injured.

A weapon was found by the police in a park shortly after the incident and the public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into attempted manslaughter.

One day prior, a person was injured in the knee during a shooting at Jacques Franck Square in Saint-Gilles and on October 2, shots were also fired in Bethlehem Square.
