Christian Lindner, former German vice chancellor and finance minister, has accidentally run over a dog with his car.
The animal was said to be the pet of Wolf Bauer, a German film producer, that ran in front of Lindner’s car while off its leash.
On May 4, German newspaper Bild reported that the former Liberal minister hit a small Norfolk Terrier in a restaurant parking lot in the west of Berlin the day before. The dog died as a result.
Lindner reportedly sought veterinary care for the animal at the scene of the accident.
He was later informed of its death by Bild.
“I didn’t know that the dog died in the meantime. The dog owner and I did not exchange contact details, he did not introduce himself to me. I am very sorry that the dog has died,” Lindner was quoted as saying.
Bauer told German media he did not wish to comment on the matter.
