Dutch authorities have carried out a series of co-ordinated raids across the Netherlands resulting in the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of alleged incitement to terrorism via the social‑media platform TikTok.
The suspects arrested on April 22 ranged in age from 14 to 30 and were apprehended at multiple locations.
Investigations into the alleged offences were being led by various police units.
The National Unit Investigation and Interventions (LO) executed eight of the arrests. The Hague district unit made three arrests, Rotterdam’s unit detained two individuals and Amsterdam’s arrested one person.
Oversight of the operation was provided by the National Public Prosecution Service.
Prosecutors have declined to release further details at this stage, citing the youth of some suspects and the ongoing nature of the enquiries.
Similar cases have already taken place in France, where Algerian influencers with a large following on TikTok, were jailed for “direct provocation to an act of terrorism”, following comments made on the same social media platform.
