MAGA hat spotted at EC hearings as MEPs congratulate Trump

At least one MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) hat has been spotted during the European Commissioner hearings in the European Parliament in the past few days as many MEPs on the Right have celebrated Donald Trump’s election win in the US.

Siegbert Droese, of the Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) group, brought the iconic red hat in with him during the EP’s sit down with proposed Fisheries and Oceans tsar Costas Kadis.

“On this happy day, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Donald Trump all the best for his fantastic success,” he told the parliament, his MAGA hat on a table beside him.

“I am very pleased for the American people in particular that they elected such a fantastic leader, and I think it serves as an example for our European nations and peoples.”

Kadis responded with slightly more muted congratulations for President-elect Trump.

“Let me also take this opportunity to congratulate President Trump and express our willingness to collaborate with the new USA administration,” he said.

Elsewhere in the parliament, many members of the Patriots for Europe group were also seen with Trump hats, many of which sported a more European-style blue colour.

“The Patriots group in the European Parliament is ready to lead with the same spirit [as Trump] to make Europe great again,” the group said.

“Congrats again President Trump,” it continued. “And now, it is our turn.”

The reaction contrasted with that of the Greens in the EP, with the group having issued a statement on November 6 lambasting Trump as an “autocrat”.
